From map to glass

How a landform ends up in a glass.

01 · Map data

It starts as map data.

Every glass begins with surveyed height data for the real place, the same data behind the contour lines on a walking map. Each ring here is another step closer to the summit.

02 · 3D shape

The data becomes a 3D shape.

Those heights are built into a three-dimensional model of the land, then refined until every ridge, flank and summit reads as the place you know from the trail.

03 · Hand-blown

Glass is blown into the shape.

The shape is cut into a mould, and molten lead-free crystal is blown into it by hand, so the mountain forms in the solid base. Each glass is then flame-polished and engraved with the name of its place.
